Chatbot: the website lane
A dealership chatbot is best for answering common website questions, collecting intent, and moving a shopper toward inventory, a trade step, or an appointment. Its quality depends on current inventory, store facts, and a clean human handoff.
Voice agent: the phone lane
A voice agent answers or places calls, handles a bounded conversation, and can take actions such as routing or booking. It earns its keep where coverage and call volume create a measurable leak. Voice also carries higher expectations around disclosure, recording, consent, and escalation.
Assistant or co-pilot: the employee lane
An assistant helps dealership staff research, draft, summarize, coach, or prepare. It can turn reviews into themes, calls into coaching notes, and service histories into a draft outreach list. The employee reviews the output before it reaches the customer.
The simplest selection rule
If the customer is on your website, evaluate a chatbot. If the customer is calling, evaluate a voice agent. If the employee is doing repetitive knowledge work, evaluate an assistant. If the job crosses all three, start with the highest-value channel and prove the handoffs before buying a platform story.
